Acute sports related strains to the thigh and hamstring are quite common especially in football codes which involve fast acceleration. Groin strains are also common across football and kicking sports particularly involving change of direction. Early management with Physio can help bring the earliest and most durable return to play with a special focus on prevention of re-injury as these types of strains have unfortunately high re-injury rates and can become chronic. There is now some excellent research to support preventive exercise programs in a number of sporting codes which we are encouraging with our clubs and athletes. Chronic groin strains can be difficult and slow to resolve but also show good results with carefully staged physio programming.
Other areas of the body can also directly refer to the thigh groin such as the lumbar spine & hip.
